The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Express Displeasure Regarding Sizing Updates
Vinted users have been reacting angrily due to a modification that led to listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The second-hand shopping app has updated its measurement guidelines for female and kids' apparel without notifying every member regarding the update.
Digital Channels Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors have taken to social media stating that platform listings now display a different size category than originally posted as a result of the reclassification.
The platform stated the updated approach better aligns with other platforms.
The platform has recommended to examine their items and update the measurements by hand when needed, resulting in member annoyance.
Measurement Approach Changes
Before the change, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter with a size spectrum like S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L was formerly size 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
User Stories
Frankie Bridger, who produces content about larger sizing, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Another user, from Glasgow, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were displaying on the service as larger sizing 20-22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Required Changes
Another shopper, located in England, explained she became annoyed by the change as she had to manually change the sizes on "every single listing".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, because of my ongoing medical condition and selling on Vinted has been paramount for me since losing part of my income," she explained.
Marketplace Information
The platform boasts over 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK.
It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance where an unanticipated change to the app has proved unpopular: last year, the service retracted a modification to its shipping options due to shopper criticism.
