Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of heroes who will split off from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.
What Defines the Combat Party
As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might look mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment show why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, striking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The traitor then cleared his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each member has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires revenge.
- The adventurer has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a nasty place.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the team access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The fighter vowed a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The cleric defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- Teor is marked for death by the family.
This results in them few options but to journey toward the northern region in quest for Casimir.
What’s Next?
From episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to form the Questers and Planners parties.
Fans can look forward to finding out which characters will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
